That’s Doc Searls. I agree, and also with Dave Winer, whom he quotes: What the electorate needs is to hire someone to lead us for the four years between elections.
Dave’s post outlines exactly the kind of reclaiming of the political process that I think we the people will, can and need to take now we have the internet. My prediction is that this will take a few more years. What we really need is civilised, practical, effective progress through conversation, instead of vicious moralistic negativity and polarisation. If you think that’s pie-in-the-sky, I think the way the internet is growing proves that amazing things can be done by humans. And where the internet has led, governments can follow. (As hired employees, of course.)
