all change! somewhat

I can’t be the only person quietly rolling my eyeballs at all the confidently self-affirmed over-excited people who really believe that sixteen impossible things are going to be happening before breakfast every day now for the rest of their lives…
It’s called being old, I think.
Well, congrats to Obama; I thought you would do it all along, and you did. The next few years should be interesting, to say the least. I shall take my time also, watching them unfold. My new predictions are (1) Obama will win a second term, (2) he will accomplish many fireworks, (3) most ordinary people will not be affected by any of them, except in terms of their mental health, either by stressing or being over-excited (see above).
Also, gradually and inevitably, eventually Obama supporters will get peeved with him and lose their sense of fun, growing up into cynical old people who only want to tend their lettuces and read old books by Proust and Flaubert. Such is life. Nothing wrong with it, either

I predicted McCain victory. I was wrong.
I’m actually optimistic this morning. This has little to do with Barack. I congratulate him, yet I’ve little confidence in his understanding of what makes America unique and special.
I was touched, late in the campaign, by the conservative Americans who publicly and wholeheartedly threw their support to John McCain. They were not especially animated by John McCain. The guy you linked to a couple of weeks ago had it correct: John McCain provided no galvanizing reason to vote for him. Rather, these regular Americans were rallying for the principles they believe in: limited government, free markets, freedom and opportunity as antidotes to human misery. I was extremely heartened to see such large numbers of persons who were actively and publicly standing up for these ideals; for the America they believe in and support. Our nation will be fine. Those Americans who stood up in the last weeks of the election campaign will make sure of it. I feel heartened and optimistic after seeing them.

Almost forgot: I hereby officially announce matrimonial intent.

I think Obama’s supporters will become disappointed when the change they expect doesn’t come instantly, even though Obama himself said that it’s going to be a long road, and may be even longer than one term.
I still support him though. I’m not all “OMG HES THE MESSIAH” but I support him…

I have a feeling people might discover that they want different kinds of change, too. What happens then is what worries me the most- will stuff be steam-rollered through that less than half of the voters (for Obama) actually want?
Well, we’ll see. I hope not.

Alice:
A friend asked me on Facebook ‘why choose realism, when you can choose inspiration and aspiration?’. I replied because when inspiration strikes, one has to act and action is essential to making something more meaningful out of that inspiration.
“..will stuff be steam-rollered through that less than half of the voters (for Obama) actually want?”
With a Congress and a Senate that the Democrats control, what do you think the answer will be?

OK, so, when he says things will be hard but he’s going to listen to people, Obama means things will be hard (because I’ll be doing them against your will) but I’ll listen to people (literally just listen, not take their views into account when making decisions).
Well, that will be a nasty shock for one set of idealists or the other. I see them as the old-fashioned wealth redistributionists and the modern internet freedom & empowerment movement.
fun & games ahead :-/

Alice, I have to say that I came here to read your thoughts on The Annointed One’s victory. I am pleasantly surprised. I, too, am old enough to be less than jubilant. I fear that Americans are in for the worst of both worlds–Carter and Clinton, part II, only this time in a world with a nuclear Iran.

beloml- thanks for reading!
I used to be more anti-liberal than in the last couple of years… wondering now if Obama will reverse my personal trend. Time will tell…
The nuclear Iran thing is a big issue nobody seems to be talking about much yet. Again, time will tell :-/
