about me
By alice | January 10, 2007
I’m good at baking.
Following Connie’s example, here is an update for anyone who might want to know: I’m English; 39; live in Texas with my second husband; we have four children altogether who spend most of their time with their other parents, our exes (his over here, mine in England); I’ve been an English teacher and a full-time mother and a homeschooler and done voluntary work in those communities; my step-teen currently homeschools with us; my current time goes on housewifery, remodelling our fixer-upper, trying to figure out what to do for the next decade that fits with all the question marks (yes I know it’s about getting off my ass and not just pondering), reading watching films drawing and cooking and making things and trawling thrift stores; I’m a Noahide, which is a non-Jewish believer in Judaism (to put it another way, a non-Christian theist);
…other than that, I have been having trouble lately with identifying myself according to any philosophies or political stances these days. Although I am mostly conservative with some striking differences. I value democracy more than political parties, but I value finding a new pair of $5 shoes in Family Thrift over both, because I’ve been in love with clever bargain shopping since my first bargain aged 13 (the 30’s rocking chair with the William Morris print cover). It was 50p. I had to borrow the money off my dad. Making money is something I don’t do very well, but would like to get better at, not for the money so much (my bargain skills make the feeding of the 5000 look like a teddy bears’ tea party) but because it sounds like a lot of fun.
Anything else you want to know, ask away! I’ll answer unless it makes my brain hurt a lot or compromises the safety of a world power. Maybe

How revealing! In a good way.

Goes to show how self-deceptive people (me, in particular) are. Not to skip “ignorant”.
-I had no idea who Noahides are, let alone to think of you as one.
-Drooling here imagining 30’s rocker upholstered in Morris. Even if it was 3×50p, I’d snatched it.
-didn’t you decided to continue your education? Having a second (or, possibly, third?) degree?
-somehow I’m hard-pressed to believe that your valuing bargain-shopping more than a democracy is anything more than a bon mot. Or maybe, if it’s not, you should try batgain-shopping in a place w/o democracy – and see your priorities shift…

I’ll post again about the Noah stuff sometime. It’s very un-heavy. I was going to get a third degree in psychology- I remember blogging about that last year. Decided it wasn’t for me, and didn’t take up my university place in the end.
You’re right about the bon mot, of course. I guess I meant it in the sense that I spend more time and energy contemplating my hobby than I do contemplating politics, not that democracy is less important.
